NdFeB magnet, fully known as Neodymium Iron Boron permanent magnet, is a third-generation rare earth permanent magnet material and currently the most widely used high-performance permanent magnet in the global magnetic material industry. Composed of neodymium, iron, boron and a small amount of trace rare earth elements such as dysprosium and terbium, this magnet features an extremely high magnetic energy product, coercivity and remanence, far exceeding traditional ferrite magnets and alnico magnets. As a core representative of rare earth permanent magnets, NdFeB magnets are divided into sintered NdFeB and bonded NdFeB two major categories according to different production processes, with significant differences in performance, molding flexibility and application scenarios. Sintered NdFeB magnets are manufactured through powder metallurgy technology, including batching, smelting, powder making, magnetic field orientation pressing, sintering, tempering and precision processing, featuring high density, strong magnetic force and stable performance, which occupy more than 80% of the high-end permanent magnet market. Bonded NdFeB magnets are made by mixing NdFeB magnetic powder with resin, rubber and other binders, with good flexibility, complex moldability and uniform magnetic properties, suitable for small and special-shaped magnetic components.
In terms of core performance parameters, commercial NdFeB magnets have a magnetic energy product ranging from 35MGOe to 55MGOe, and the highest laboratory-level magnetic energy product can exceed 60MGOe, which is the highest among all mass-produced permanent magnet materials. Its maximum working temperature ranges from 80℃ to 220℃, and high-temperature resistant models can maintain stable magnetic properties in extreme high-temperature environments, effectively avoiding magnetic attenuation and demagnetization. In addition, NdFeB magnets have excellent mechanical processing performance, which can be processed into various shapes such as circles, squares, rings, strips and arcs through cutting, drilling, grinding and other processes, meeting the customized needs of different industrial equipment. However, NdFeB materials have the disadvantages of poor corrosion resistance and brittleness, so surface treatments such as zinc plating, nickel plating, epoxy resin coating and passivation are usually adopted in industrial production to improve their wear resistance, oxidation resistance and service life.
The application fields of NdFeB rare earth permanent magnets cover almost all high-end manufacturing and emerging industries. In the new energy vehicle industry, it is the core material of drive motors, electronic control systems, sensors and braking systems, effectively improving the energy conversion efficiency and endurance of new energy vehicles. In the wind power generation industry, high-power NdFeB magnets are used in permanent magnet synchronous wind turbines, reducing the volume and weight of generators and improving power generation efficiency. In consumer electronics, they are widely used in mobile phone vibration motors, speaker sound units, camera focusing modules and wireless charging equipment. In addition, NdFeB magnets also play an irreplaceable role in industrial automation equipment, medical equipment, aerospace, precision instruments and other fields. With the rapid development of global new energy, intelligent manufacturing and electronic information industries, the market demand for high-performance NdFeB rare earth permanent magnets continues to grow, and it has become an indispensable basic functional material for modern high-tech industries.
